About

Hi, I'm Taylor--

Taylor with his wife, Karen, and their three childrenThe Yates Family

I’m a Belmont homeowner, a father of three, and a small business owner.

I moved to Belmont in 2018, like many of you, to build a future for my family in a community that invests in itself. Belmont’s great schools, proximity to Boston, and deep sense of commitment to its future drew me in. This is a town where people stay for decades and generations, working together to shape its path forward.

Taylor's Accomplishments

The Right Experience for the Select Board

  • Planning Board Chair

I’ve shifted the Board’s focus to economic development, with major rezoning efforts initiatives for Belmont Center and Brighton Street.  We’re streamlining bylaws and approval processes and bringing greater transparency, consistency, and fairness.

  • MBTA Communities Act

As Planning Board Chair, I led development of Belmont’s bylaw for the MBTA Communities Act. This was very complex and required building consensus across the entire town. It passed Town Meeting with one of the largest margins of victory in the state.

  • Yes for Appointed Treasurer Ballot Question

As a Town Meeting member, I supported an Appointed Treasurer. But to make it happen, a town-wide ballot question had to be successful. I chaired that campaign. We worked hard to explain the reasons for this major change. It passed in April 2023 with more than 70% of the vote.

  • Restaurant Zoning Reform

I led the work by the Planning Board to allow restaurants by right in all of Belmont’s business districts—essential for revitalizing our streetscapes and expanding our commercial tax base. This was a huge success, earning 96% approval from Town Meeting Members.

  • Vision21 Implementation Committee

As Chair of the Vision21 Implementation Committee, I helped launch the Town’s last comprehensive plan effort and remain committed to completing it. Though the pandemic cut it short, I successfully pushed the Select Board to fund and staff its revival for 2025.

Key Initiatives

In my service to Belmont, I've championed key initiatives, including pushing to allow restaurants by right in Belmont; supporting transit-oriented housing by passing the MBTA Communities Act with one of the state’s largest margins; and refocusing the Planning Board to streamline processes and prioritize economic development.
